Battery power is an important part of many ADCP deployments. In Brazil, however, having access to the type of high-quality batteries needed to operate these instruments in underwater environments is not always an easy task. In addition, battery transport can be risky and lower quality batteries can pose safety risks to end users.

What motivated this initiative? High transportation costs, excessive bureaucracy, challenging tax systems and complex customs fees are factors that make it difficult to access batteries.

"Faced with these obstacles, many ADCP users end up manufacturing their own batteries, not always in accordance with best manufacturing practices, exposing themselves to risks during the manufacturing process and during battery use in relation to deployments," says Diego Bitencourt, director of Nortek's Brazilian division.

"In addition, we saw that ADCP instrumentation was damaged due to battery-related errors," Bitencourt adds.
